Magnus Carlsen fought his way to a 3.5-2.5 victory in set 2 of the final against Hikaru Nakamura, thereby levelling the scores of the match with five sets still to go. While dominating key moments of the game, Nakamura faulted several times to allow Carlsen advantages and opportunities to bring himself back into the tie.
The game came down to the blitz tiebreak and Carlsen, playing with black, took full advantage of the American’s errors with white.
