After previously saying he had a problem with the tournament’s quarantine requirement, Novak Djokovic announced on Thursday that he will be participating in the US Open. The event is scheduled to get underway on Aug. 31 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.

“It was not an easy decision to make with all the obstacles and challenges on many sides, but the prospect of competing again makes me really excited,” Djokovic said in a statement on his website.

Djokovic had stated earlier in 2020 that he’d play in the US Open only if tournament officials agreed to waive the “extreme” quarantine requirement once he returns to Europe.
