Real Madrid beat an in-form Celta Vigo 2-0 at home on Saturday thanks to a goal and assist apiece from Spanish pair Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio, putting the side above city rival Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga.
The win took the Spanish champion to the summit on 36 points, one ahead of second-placed Atletico which has three games in hand and on Sunday visits Alaves.
Real was smarting from a surprise 1-1 draw at struggling Elche in its last match and was missing captain Sergio Ramos, who was out with a stomach bug.
”They are the most in-form team we have faced. We had difficulties, but we controlled the match. It was good from minute 1 until the end. We interpreted the game very well by pressing high up, without letting them play. In the end, there are 3 very important points for us.’ pic.twitter.com/XYyHFp1rSz
